Los Tigres del Norte Uniondale Concert reviews
STP... Terrific Sound Quality... Horrific
I had the opportunity to see Los Tigres del Norte for the first time, and they are one of the few bands I would pay to see. We got to the GA show early and secured a prime spot center stage right up front. Everything seemed set for a fantastic night of Los Tigres del Norte, but it quickly went downhill from there. We had to endure not one, but two opening bands, both of which were completely forgettable. The first band, whose name I still can't recall, repeated their name multiple times, but the sound quality was so poor that their words were unintelligible. And to have TWO opening bands for an 8 o'clock show on a Monday night? Come on, some of us work!
In defense of the opening bands, they may have had decent songs, but the terrible sound mix made it impossible to appreciate. Throughout the evening, the vocals were lost in a wall of guitars and bass. Despite some improvement during the second band's set, the issues persisted, with constant calls from the audience to raise the microphone levels. The situation didn't improve when Los Tigres del Norte's professional sound crew took over.
Los Tigres del Norte finally graced the stage around 10:20 with "Vasoline" and continued from there. Unfortunately, they too suffered from the same poor sound mix. I was excited to hear some new material, but the sound quality didn't allow for a fair assessment. Weiland's vocals, a crucial aspect of Los Tigres del Norte's music, were barely audible all night. Even when he was just a few feet away from me, I struggled to make out the lyrics. In short, it was a disappointing experience.
The rowdy 20-somethings pushing forward in an attempt to get closer to the stage added to the disappointment of the evening.
Despite Los Tigres del Norte's energetic performance, the show was marred by sound issues. Weiland's stage presence was impressive, reminiscent of Jagger, but the lack of clear vocals detracted from the overall experience. I would consider seeing Los Tigres del Norte again, but in a different venue. And please, hire competent sound technicians!
